The Eyes OF Understanding

“That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power…” Ephesians 1:17-19 It is so imperative that the eyes of understanding (the eyes of our spirit) be enlightened to the things of God. In these last days, God is sending prophetic messages to His people but only those with keen eyesight will be able to pick it up.

Spiritual Eyes

How many Christians do we know today in the Body of Christ who don’t know, as the verse states above, the hope of His calling, the riches of our inheritance, or the exceeding power and authority that is rightfully ours? God has designed us with spiritual eyes so that we can see what He sees. The word “keen” as defined, speaks of sharpness and quickness. It speaks of spiritual insight into natural situations. Spiritual sharpness comes from walking in the power of God. As we continually use the authority and the power that God has given us, we become sharper and sharper in our eyesight. Iron sharpens iron. Wood has not been known to sharpen iron. The Word of God sharpens our eyesight in the spirit. Television does not sharpen us, nor do magazines, movies, or sport venues. Only the Word alone has the power to do this. “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart” – Hebrews 4:12

Wisdom by the Spirit of God

The Word of God is full of living power – it is life-changing and dynamic as it works in us. It is sharper than the sharpest surgical knife; cutting deep into our innermost thoughts and motives and exposing things for what they really are. When we have the living Word of God inside of us we become sharp; able to see things that don’t belong or are out of place. When our eyesight is keen and sharp, we are able to discern those things that are not right. This can often be heard of as being referred to as “intuition”

“Intuition” can be defined as having spiritual insight; perception or discernment; second sight. It is the immediate perception or understanding of truth (without reasoning). The world reasons “this and that” according to their natural, limited minds. Have you ever heard people say, “I’m at the end of my rope!” What they’re basically saying is that they’re at the end of their rope of reasoning or clear understanding – they don’t know what to do anymore! But we as believers have limitless access to wisdom through the spirit of God; to perceive and understand immediately what to do in any given situation. Now, this is power!
